Homestead Trail Hike

Monday I spent all afternoon trying to figure out where the heck the Homestead trail actually was amid the snowmobile ravaged countryside. Tuesday I finally found it. To my delight, it was little more than a goat path which lead me for hours and miles through some reasonably rugged back country. Bear and moose tracks were frequent, and a flock of Chestnut-Backed Chickadees accosted me with curiosity.

This was my means of crossing "Bridge Creek."

This is a beautiful old cabin I came across. Excellent workmanship!

A hand forged door latch.

The for-porch rested on a massive old stump. It was interesting to contemplate a time when trees like this dominated the landscape. Fires, people and parasites have devastated the old growth forest on the north side of the bay.
