After attending both the Anchorage and the Willow starts for the 2011 Iditarod this year, I came home and told Peter that we need land and dogs. And a sled. Needless to say, that would satisfy him quite wonderfully! The excitement of being there was contagious. The sounds of the dogs, cameras zooming in, cold chills tingling in your fingers and toes, the announcer droning on and on, the countdown and finally the whoosh of the sled! Paws frantically grasping the snow, every thought captivated with forward motion! We wandered around, shooting photos of the trucks and handlers, then found a good place on the fence and watched one musher after another pass. We hadn't planned on heading up to Willow the next day, but we both decided that one start just wasn't enough! We needed more! Maybe next year we'll volunteer and be part of the excitement ourselves! :-)

Sled dogs, raring to go!

A unique and exciting way to arrive at the start line.

Last minute puppy cuddles!

Lots of fun furs out on parade!

"Come on, already, lets go!

"Now! Now! Can we go now!!!"

I bet his toes didn't feel the cold!
