Halibut Cove Lagoon West Cabin Part #1

Early the next morning we rolled out of Ninilchick and down to Homer to meet our water taxi.

Pete and I made a reservation for a cabin in Halibut Cove Lagoon, Kachemak Bay back in January.  To get there you have to load up all of your gear, hire a water taxi and take a 30 minute ride across the bay.

We are so excited to have had these two with us!

Upon our arrival, we were greeted with the "snap", "crack", and "pop" of this little fellow.  "Ollie" the otter was dining in style in our little lagoon.  Down he would dive for his mussels, up he would come, floating easily on his back as he downed the shelled morsels.

View of our cabin from the beach.

"Lloyd" the Stellar Jay.  He was sure that we were going to feed him at some point.  It's too bad we had to disappoint him!

We had no sooner gotten settled into our cabin when Pete decided it was time to trek back to the lake for some fishing.

Off we go!

While Pete and Dad's eyes were glued on the tree tops, Mom and I were absorbed in the forest floor.  With our late spring all of the growing things are still small and delicate.

Our confusion about which trail to take was not helped by the signpost lying horizontally on the ground.  While we consulted the map again, Dad told the sign where it could go.

This lovely, frilled fungus-covered tree drew our cameras off the ground for a moment.

But it wasn't long before we were back to the ground.
