On the way from Homer to our next adventure in Seward we did a little sight seeing at a popular stop in Ninilchik.
This Russian Orthodox Church was dedicated back in 1901 and overlooks a quaint and historical Russian village below.
Back in 2010 Pete and I spent most of a low tide digging up clams on that beach with some friends. Let me tell you what, buy those things in a can! Digging them up for 5 hours, steaming them, gutting them out, and then rinsing them over and over for 5 more hours, all for a tiny little piece of rubbery mollusk is, in our opinion, way overrated!
I was intrigued by the books, one on housekeeping and a Sibley guide to birds.
From Ninilchik we trekked on to our next stop. Sourdough Sue's Bear Lake Lodging!
Good thing our hostess put my name on the door!
We were so excited to be staying in a real Alaskan yurt for our stay in Seward. Our hostess, Sue, provided everything we needed. For an affordable, comfortable, and unique experience, we couldn't have asked for anything better!
Complete with two double beds, a mini kitchen, full bathroom and generous deck area, it was almost as much space and convenience as we have in our home in Anchorage!
We made good use of the grill for all of our meals, feasting on grilled chicken, hamburgers, corn on the cob and asparagus! Turns out Dad is a pretty good grill chef!
